Memphis

Memphis is the duo of Chris Dumont and Torquil Campbell (Stars). They met in NYC prior to the formation of Stars and hung out with Campbell's old friends like Chris Seligman, James Shaw, and Adam Marvy. Together they played a bunch of gigs around the city but disbanded once Campell and Seligman founded Stars and Shaw became part of Metric. A few summers later, Campbell invited Dumont to Canada and Memphis was born.

This record has been around for a while, but I didn't really take note of it until I heard the strains of "Incredibly Drunk on Whiskey" on the radio one day. Really amazing track.

Fortunately for me, they gearing up for the road and headed for NYC:

May 8 - The Lucky Bar Victoria, British Columbia
May 9 - Habitat Kelowna, British Columbia

I only wish Postmarks were supporting their NYC shows, that would be such a dream line-up!

You can download part of the Memphis album here, but I highly recommend you buy the album and support an excellent band.
